If you've seen Aziz Ansari's most recent Netflix special Live at Madison Square Garden, then you too have been blessed with watching the now officially post-Parks & Recreation comedian ask for a volunteer from the audience willing to let Ansari read through some of their recent text messages in front of, well, a packed Madison Square Garden. At the hands of a lesser performer, such an intimate sequence might buckle beneath the gravity of the moment, a spectacle collapsing into a lull. Ansari, however, builds a hilarious and touching ode to modern romance — keenly avoiding anything resembling an indictment.

As previously reported, Ansari is expanding on that concept (alongside NYU sociologist Eric Klinenberg) with his forthcoming book aptly titled Modern Romance. Coupled with that announcement was the first look at the novel's leather-bound cover — a totally competent design owing much to romance, but not so much to modernity. However, due to a cost issue, the cover for Modern Romance has now been changed to the simple (modern) brilliance below.

1.

Modern Romance drops June 16th and comes just as highly recommended as the aforementioned Live at Madison Square Garden.
