Jodi Arias has been sentenced to life in prison for the gruesome murder of Travis Alexander nearly eight years ago.

The court found Arias, 34, guilty of murder and sentenced her to life behind bars without the possibility of parole. The jurors were deadlocked over whether or not to give her the death penalty but Judge Sherry Stephens decided Arias' fate Monday after she was convicted of first-degree murder in May 2013 for Alexander's death.

Her sentencing trial resulted in a hung jury and her original sentencing in May 2013 was also declared a mistrial. Under Arizona state law she couldn't be tried again and would automatically receive a life sentence. A judge would then decide if she received life in prison without parole or would grant her eligible for release in 25 years. As we now know, the judge decided to rule against the possibility of parole.

Arias was found guilty for brutally killing her boyfriend Travis Alexander. His body was discovered on June 4, 2008, in his Mesa, Arizona, home in the shower with nearly 30 stab wounds, a slit throat and a gunshot to the head. The defense portrayed Alexander as a violent womanizer as Arias gave the court explicit details of her sex life with him. They claimed Arias killed Alexander in self-defense because of his escalating sexual demands. Arias initially denied any involvement but recounted her story after DNA proved her wrong.

Arias will serve her sentence at Perryville Prison near Goodyear, Arizona.
