Google Wants to Be the Gatekeeper Between You and Spoilers

The company has a patent to prevent movies, shows, and books from being ruined.

In an ideal world everyone would agree to a moratorium in which no one would post spoilers to social media. We'd have, say, a 24-hour window to safely browse Facebook without having to worry about someone ruining the latest devastating death on Game of Thrones. But this is not an ideal world. Even The Walking Dead can't avoid spoiling its mid-season finale for its fans on the West Coast.

Step in Google, which has been awarded a patent for content processing that would blur out spoilers from social media. The app or program, which hasn't been developed yet, would track the content you consume and the progress you've made in said content. It would then use that information to block any spoilers and give a warning as a pop-up.

The system could also be used to track people's progress in classrooms or book clubs. It could even be used for those weirdos who are actually looking for spoilers. (You know who you are.)

If or when this idea will go live remains unclear, but we're onboard for anything that prevents us from having to murder our friends and relatives for ruining yet another episode of our favorite show.
