Officials say an unarmed black man was shot and killed by police in Colorado last week.

According to the Denver Post, the unidentified 37-year-old was shot once around 1:15 p.m. in Aurora, Co. on Friday. According to the Post, he was a parolee who had taken off his Department of Corrections-issued ankle monitor on Mar. 2:

The shooting happened on the 16200 block of East 12th Avenue roughly a block from Laredo Elementary School.

Police say the suspect was on foot and that he was shot as officers tried to arrest him. The suspect was wanted in connection with a kidnapping and robbery, according to investigators.

The officer involved in the shooting also has yet to be identified. In a statement, Aurora Police Chief Nicholas Metz said the department is withholding certain information, so as not to jeopardize a "full and thorough" investigation.
