Warner Brothers went to the Godzilla school of trailers for their new San Andreas spot. It's structured around the dialogue delivery of a respected character actor who lays out the oncoming doom (here, Paul Giamatti), and it's got falling buildings, seismic waves, an eerie soundtrack, the Golden Gate Bridge, and a hulking creature you hope survives (here, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson).

The plot concerns an LA helicopter pilot (Johnson) who rescues his ex-wife (Carla Gugino) so they can team up to save their Bay Area-daughter (Alexandra Daddario, the courtroom typist in True Detective who shot to the top of IMDb after her sex scene with Woody Harrelson), while southern California is rocked by a magnitude 9 earthquake. Buildings fall, waves rise, humanity—and exes!—have to band together. You know the drill.

San Andreas hits theaters May 29.
