A police chief in South Florida is out of a job after he was caught soliciting a prostitute earlier this week.

NBC Miami reports that Miami Gardens Police Chief Stephen Johnson was arrested on Friday at a Dania Beach, Fla. hotel. Deputies with the Broward County Sheriff's Office were executing an undercover prostitution initiative at the hotel, and the 53-year-old Johnson reportedly responded to a backpage.com ad:

Authorities had placed an escort ad on backpage.com and two detectives were posing as prostitutes at the hotel, the affidavit said.

Johnson had called the number on the ad and arranged to pay $100 for 30 minutes with two prostitutes, the report said.

When Johnson arrived at the hotel room, he was let in and handed over the $100, the report said. He had two condoms in his pocket when he was arrested, the report said.

Johnson, who the Associated Press reports had been on the job for less than a year, was dismissed following his arrest. In a statement, the Miami Gardens Police Department said it would not let his "bad judgment" tarnish their efforts.
