"On Monday morning, people are going to click a link to hear what that woman from Scandal said at that awards show, so I think some stuff needs to be said."

This was the opening line to Kerry Washington's acceptance speech at the GLAAD Media Awards this weekend, and she certainly delivered on her promise to say stuff that needs to be said. Accepting the Vanguard Award, Washington touched on the need for more "inclusive storytelling" with regards to "those of us who fall into the category of other." Washington added that "women, poor people, people of color, people with disabilities, immigrants, gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, trans people, [and] intersex people" are often unwittingly forced to compete against each other because "they're made to feel like there are limited seats at the table."
