Spoilers are coming. Much to their dismay, avid Game of Thrones readers will no longer have a one up on fans of the series who only watch the show. Show runners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff confirmed to the Oxford Union the show will be ending sooner than the books and will spoil the plot for the series' readers.

"Luckily, we’ve been talking about this with George for a long time, ever since we saw this could happen, and we know where things are heading. And so we’ll eventually, basically, meet up at pretty much the same place where George is going; there might be a few deviations along the route, but we’re heading towards the same destination. I kind of wish that there were some things we didn’t have to spoil, but we’re kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. The show must go on. . .and that’s what we’re going to do."

GOT fans who watch the show and those who read the books will finally be in sync at this season's finale but both will be left on edge wondering what's happening in the next book, The Winds of Winter. Creator George R.R. Martin’s publisher previously went on the record with no news on the release date of The Winds of Winter, but Martin has been MIA, leaving some to suspect he's busy finishing Book 6.
