Authorities in Florida say a man who called 911 for assistance opened fire on responding police officers earlier this week, shooting two of them.

The Associated Press reports that John Goepferich, 59, called 911 on Tuesday night, luring Lake Wales, Fla. police officers to his home with the intention of shooting at them.

During a 15-minute gun battle, Goepferich exchanged fire with officers, striking Officer Benjamin Metz in the back of the neck. Meanwhile, Officer John Schwarze was saved by his belt. According to the Associated Press, neither officer sustained life-threatening injuries. Goepferich, who was shot twice by police, was also left with non-life-threatening injuries.

The charges Goepferich faces include attempted first-degree murder on a law enforcement officer, as well as shooting into an unoccupied vehicle.
