Further proving that Maggie Smith knows all: the sixth season of Downton Abbey will be its last. The Dowager Countess herself announced she would only return for one more season, and really, how can it go on without an episode filled with Violet's epic mic drops? (It can't.)
“I can’t see how it could go on,” Smith said at the time. “I mean, I certainly can’t keep going. To my knowledge, I must be 110 by now. We’re into the late 1920s.” Inside sources confirmed to TVLine that most of the cast's contracts are up at the end of season six anyway, and the actors are ready to move on.
“You can keep the show going without Matthew and Sybill, but you can’t continue it without the entire Crawley family,” the insider helpfully pointed out (probably Thomas).
