Noted conservative pundit Dr. Ben Carson appeared on CNN's New Day this morning and—with a straight face—said that prison is proof that people choose to be gay. Allow the blank stares to commence.
When host Chris Cuomo asked Carson if he believed people select their sexuality, he responded "Absolutely" without a pause. He then used prison sex as an example to defended his position.
"Because a lot of people who go into prison prison straight—and when they come out, they're gay. So did something happen while they were in there?" Carson asked. "Ask yourself that question." He said this as if it were gospel.
It's bad enough that Carson exhibited a rudimentary understanding of human sexuality and the dynamics of prison sex, but the fact that he tried to link the two is puzzling. Concerning, even.
And this guy is weighing a presidential run.
