Do movies that are “true stories” have to be fully accurate?  Host Larry Wilmore recently posed that question to his panel of guests on Comedy Central’s new hit series, The Nightly Show.

The inquiry was aimed more specifically at the Oscar-nominated hit film American Sniper, which was directed by the iconic Clint Eastwood and stars Bradley Cooper as real life Navy SEAL Chris Kyle. Kyle was a sniper in the Iraq War, and while the film delves deeply into his personal struggle, it’s taken some heat for its possible glorification of Kyle—the most lethal sniper in US history, who died in 2013—as well as the widely unpopular war itself.

As you can see in this clip of The Nightly Show’s panel debate, Larry and his guests are of many minds about the issue, and all of them convey their stances in ways that are both hilarious and insightful. Building on the comedic relevance that Comedy Central’s late night programming has become famous for, The Nightly Show’s panel structure allows an ever-rotating group of guests to get in on the fun too.
