When you think of Breaking Bad-style homemade labs blowing up people's houses and trailers, you don't usually think about weed. Nevertheless, people's houses are blowing up, because of weed.
The explosions are due to people using flammable materials such as butane to extract hash oil from their weed.
The New York Times reports that the alarming new trend is centered in the Colorado, now the weediest place in the U.S. (sorry, my old dorm room, you had a good run), where legalization means that creating hash oil is not a crime. The number of explosions across the state was 32 in 2014. The year before there were 12.
Nobody has died yet, but dozens have been severely injured and plenty of homes have been wrecked, begging the question, why not just smoke some nice, non-explosive weed. There's probably a weed store right around the corner.
