The teenage couple from Kentucky who had been on the run from the law since early this month were finally apprehended in Florida this morning, authorities say.
According to the Associated Press, Dalton Hayes, 18, and Cheyenne Phillips, 13, were taken into custody in Panama City Beach, Fla. just after midnight:
Authorities say U.S. Marshal's Service and local law enforcement in Panama City Beach discovered Hayes and Phillips asleep in a 2001 Toyota Tundra that was stolen in Henry County, Georgia. The vehicle was surrounded by law enforcement and both Hayes and Phillips were taken into custody. Authorities plan to extradite Hayes and Phillips back to Kentucky where they are expected to face felony charges.
Their reign of terror involved stealing cars and passing stolen checks, and they were reportedly spotted in Georgia and South Carolina after fleeing Grayson County, Ky. on Jan. 3. The Associated Press adds that Hayes taken to Bay County jail on custodial interference charges, while Phillips was handed over to Florida's Department of Children & Families. Hayes also faces burglary and theft charges stemming from an incident in Grayson County late last year.
