Last night on The Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert asked Serial podcast host Sarah Koenig the question everyone has been dying to know: “Did you always want to do true crime reporting that people listen to on a treadmill?”
Serial has become one of the most popular podcasts in history, hitting five million downloads on the iTunes store faster than any other show. Its first season ends next Thursday—the same night as The Colbert Report’s final show—and many are hoping to get some resolution on the show’s central mystery (we won’t spoil what that is, in case you haven’t listened yet).
Koenig also refused to reveal the greatest mystery of all: whether the girl at the beginning of the podcast will ever learn how to pronounce “mail chimp.”
