Mark Wahlberg is trying to get a pardon for an assault conviction from 1988 where he attacked two Vietnamese men. Aged 16 at the time, he was charged for attempted murder but eventually received an assault conviction, for which he served 45 days in jail.

Wahlberg's conviction currently hinders him in certain business ventures, such as obtaining a concessionaire's licence for restaurants, as well as the ability to aid law enforcement authorities in helping at-risk children as part of his charity endeavours.

He had this to say about his attempt to get a pardon:

“Receiving a pardon would be a formal recognition that I am not the same person that I was on the night of April 8, 1988.”

Whether he will receive one or not is still undetermined at this time.
