Authorities in Washington say a woman's murder may be tied to posts made on 4Chan

According to NBC News, the woman's body was found in a Port Orchard, Wash. home on Tuesday afternoon. The Daily Intelligencer reports that the images began appearing on the message board and other social media sites prior to police learning of the murder.

NBC News adds that the images were accompanied by an ominous message:

The images showed a naked woman with red marks around her neck and were shared anonymously on the online forum 4chan, the site on which nude photos of celebrities were posted two months ago. The photos were accompanied by the message: Turns out it’s way harder to strangle someone to death than it looks on the movies. When other users questioned the authenticity of the pictures, which have now been deleted, a reply said: Check the news for Port Orchard, Washington, in a few hours. Her son will be home from school soon. He'll find her, then call the cops. I just wanted to share the pics before they find me.

Although police are aware of the images, they cannot confirm that they depict the victim. Speaking with King 5, Kitsap County Sheriff's Office Deputy Scott Wilson said police do not believe the crime was a "random assault," adding that the victim was "targeted by a yet-to-be determined other person."
