The Good, the Bad, and the Penguins from the Bad Sex Awards

This week saw the nominees announced for the Literary Review’s annual Bad Sex In Fiction award. Eagerly awaited by fans of purple prose and cringeworthy erotica, the notorious award hands out a gong for the worst depiction of sex in novel published this year. Previous winners include esteemed names such as Tom Wolfe, Giles Coren and Sebastian Faulks.  Hoping—or probably dreading—to be added to that prestigious list include Booker Prize winners, pulpy adventures writers and even respected BBC journalists, who are all included on the 2014 shortlist. We’ve gone through and picked out of the worst bits so you don’t have to suffer - so sit back, think unsexy thoughts, and let us guide you through the thrusting, the moaning, the wetness and copulation interrupted by a penguin-eating dog (yes, that actually happens).
