Video footage obtained by DNAinfo shows an NYPD officer so eager to inflict pain that he kicked a fellow officer in the head after mistaking him for a suspect.

The video, shot in January, shows two officers tangled with a man who allegedly tried to avoid paying his fair at the Coney Island/Stillwell Avenue station in Brooklyn. That's when the offending plainclothes officer appears and unknowingly kicks his companion, boot and head meeting with a resounding "thud":

The plainclothes officer walked up to the scrum, paused and then reared back with one leg, letting his boot fly into the back of the head of a hat-wearing police officer wrestling with the suspect. The kick had enough force that the sound can be heard on the recording above the din.

A woman who witnessed the spectacle can be heard laughing while saying "He kicked a cop." After realizing his mistake, the officer is seen attempting to comfort his fellow officer with a pat on the head. Unfortunately, the damage was done.

The unidentified officer was forced to turn in his gun and badge, and has become the subject of investigations by the Brooklyn District Attorney's office and the police department's Internal Affairs unit.
