The music team for Jimi: All Is by My Side, the Jimi Hendrix biopic starring Andre 3000, had their work cut out for them. Because here's the thing: the movie follows Jimi before he really became the legend, when he was playing lead guitar in the shadows for Curtis Knight. Oh and another thing: All Is by My Side was made without the blessing of Experience Hendrix, so cramming the movie wall-to-wall with "Purple Haze" and "Voodoo Child" wasn't an option.
The exclusive clip above shows what music producer Danny Bramson (Almost Famous, The Lord of the Rings) had to do to give the biopic that Hendrix edge, while avoiding the clichés everyone already knows. To make sure the music, like the movie it's in, gives viewers a preview of greatness, Bramson enlisted famed guitarist Waddy Wachtel.
