Scotland Edges Ever Nearer to Leaving the UK

On September 18th Scottish voters will decide whether or not Scotland will become an independent country for the first time in over 300 years.

Since the campaigns started two years ago, every poll has shown the pro-independence camp well behind, with no real threat of Scotland leaving, but the latest YouGov poll released last night says they've dramatically closed the gap and the split could very well become a reality.

At the beginning of last month the Scottish independence Yes camp was trailing by 22 points, by the middle they were 14 points down and now, last night's poll showed that the Nos are only in the lead by 6 points.

The two televised debates between Scottish First Minister, Alex Salmond and Chairman of the Better Together Campaign, Alistair Darling have been seen as the main catalyst for the shift—the second of which Alex Salmond was said to have won.

It also comes less than a week after Better Together's disastrous campaign video was branded as sexist and patronising.
