The grand jury convening to determine whether to charge Ferguson, Mo. police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of unarmed teenager Michael Brown has had their term extended, meaning they now have until January 7 to decide whether charges will be filed.

After the slew of protests following the confrontation between Wilson and Brown on August 9, jurors have been sifting through a mountain of evidence as they weigh whether to charge Wilson in the slaying. The grand jury meets only when it feels it needs to, which can draw out the timeframe in which these decisions are made.

They were expected to take until at least November, but now it appears it may be even longer than that.
