Staten Island resident Eric Garner died after an NYPD officer applied a chokehold in an attempt to subdue him in July. The 43-year-old's family hired a forensic expert, who agrees with the city medical examiner's autopsy. In August, the medical examiner ruled that Garner's death was a homicide.

According to the New York Daily News, Dr. Michael Baden sided with the medical examiner's ruling, saying an "excellent autopsy" was performed. "We reviewed all of her findings and all the tissues and photographs and they do confirm that there’s a hemorrhage in the neck indicative of neck compression," Baden added.

In a separate press conference, Pat Lynch, head of the police union, argued that the compression could've been caused by EMS workers who tried to revive Garner.
