At 91 years old, former president, chairman, author, and basically everything of Marvel Stan Lee can be forgiven if he occasionally says something he shouldn’t. It’s like having a wily, crazy old grandpa, only this one happens to know the secrets of a multi-billion dollar entertainment franchise.
Lee’s “wild card” nature was on full display recently at Fan Expo Canada last weekend, where he was asked about a potential Black Widow film starring Scarlett Johansson. Lee’s expository answer revealed a huge new surprise movie that until then had been a surprise:
“We haven’t made a Black Widow movie but she’s been in some of our movies, and she will be featured more prominently as we move forward. And the chances are she will have her own movie because eventually all the superheroes are going to have their own movies. They are already working on Ant-Man, Dr. Strange and the Black Panther and there are others I am not allowed to talk about.”
Um, Stan? You probably weren’t supposed to talk about Black Panther either.
The Black Panther is a popular Marvel character many have been hoping to see in his own movie, and there are rumors that he may even appear in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. His basic backstory is that he hails from the fictional African nation of Wakanda, and uses his country’s primary resource of “vibranium” to fight evil.
As for who will play him, it’s too early to say. However, names like Chadwick Boseman and John Boyega have already been tossed around, and speculation is likely to only increase from here.
