Leonardo DiCaprio Has Been Named a United Nations Messenger of Peace

Leonardo DiCaprio has been recognized for his environmental activism by being named a United Nations Messenger of Peace.

Leonardo DiCaprio is well known for his work as an environmentalist, and today the United Nations has recognized the actor's effots by naming him a Messenger of Peace. Of course, DiCaprio will do more than accept the title. Next week he'll speak about climate change at the U.N. Climate Summit.

In a statement DiCaprio said, "It's an honor to accept the role of U.N. Messenger of Climate Change and to support the Secretary in his efforts to address one of the most important issues we face as a global community. I feel a moral obligation to speak out at this key moment in human history—it is a moment for action. How we respond to the climate crisis in the coming years will likely determine the fate of humanity and our planet."

This year alone DiCaprio has donated $10 million marine conversation. He'll also be recognized for his activism next week by the Clinton Foundation.

He may not have the title of Oscar winner, but this is probably far more rewarding.
