The idea of things floating in the Thames might bring up images of shopping trolleys and Lucozade bottles but today, Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman is set to bring some wildlife back to the great river. A giant hippo.

Hofman, well known for his giant rubber duck, will be unveiling 'Hippopothames'—his first UK commission—this afternoon. The installation will be towed upriver to Nine Elms on the South Bank, its new home until September 30th.

"This city is full of history," says Hoffman "underneath Trafalgar Square they used to swim in the Thames river."

Move aside Nelson.
