Dan Harmon—creator of Community and prolific tweeter—has long been held as a bit of a madman. Getting fired from your own show (as he did in May of 2012) will certainly not give you a sterling reputation among entertainment executives, so the reputation is at least somewhat understandable.
However, it’s this sort of “rebel nerd” persona that has made Harmon a hero to a whole subset of people. His dizzying array of nerdy cultural references scattered throughout his work on Community, his podcast/live show Harmontown, and his cartoon Rick and Morty have given him an intensely devoted following, which in turn serves as the impetus for this movie.
While it’s certainly not unbiased, this trailer gives a glimpse into the life of someone who lives to serve his fans.
