A 3-year-old girl was shot and killed while sitting on the front porch of a Philadelphia home yesterday, authorities say.

The Associated Press reports that the little girl was having her hair done when the shooting occurred in the city's Grays Ferry section around 9:40 p.m. last night. Speaking with NBC Philadelphia, Philadelphia Police Capt. Michael Gormley explained that a conflict between two men escalated when one pulled out a handgun and opened fire.

A stray bullet struck the child in the chest, and Gormley adds that three other people were injured, including one of the men who was involved in the argument. Police rushed him to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with a gunshot wound to the head.

The gunman escaped on a bicycle, and though NBC Philadelphia reports that a man was taken into custody near the shooting, a suspect has not been officially identified.
