When you're trying to promote a movie, it helps if you have your own nightly TV show.

Jon Stewart, who took last summer off from The Daily Show to work on his directorial debut, Rosewater, realizes that. So on last night's Daily Show he took the opportunity to share a few scenes from the film that weren't in the official trailer that came out this week.

Things get meta pretty quickly, with Daily Show correspondent Jason Jones appearing in a scene that recreates his real-life Daily Show interview with journalist Maziar Bahari in Iran in 2009.

The film, written by Stewart, is based on Bahari's book Then They Came for Me: A Family’s Story of Love, Captivity, and Survival. Bahari (played by Gael García Bernal)  traveled to Iran to cover the country's presidential election for Newsweek, and ended up being held and brutally interrogated for being a spy. His Daily Show interview didn't help with that, as the clip explains.
