George R.R. Martin is here to set the record straight (pun intended) about why there are no descriptions of gay or bisexual sex in A Song of Ice and Fire. And, really, the answer makes some sense.

Basically, he can’t put in the books because none of the characters who tell the story have participated in such an encounter. “I'm not going to do it just for the sake of doing it,” he said yesterday at the Edinburgh International Book Festival, also adding that “If the plot lends itself to that—if one of my viewpoint characters is in a situation, then I'm not going to shy away from it—but you can't just insert things because everyone wants to see them.”

While it all sounds good from George, it seems quite convenient that none of his “viewpoint” characters happen to also find themselves in the occasional homoerotic encounter. Perhaps it is because, like most authors, Martin only writes what he knows? After all, he is a self-proclaimed “boobies” guy.
