According to officials, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has ordered the Department of Justice to send a federal medical examiner to perform an autopsy on the body of Michael Brown. The unarmed Brown, 18, was shot and killed in Ferguson, Mo. last weekend by local police officer Darren Wilson.
The Associated Press reports that Brian Fallon, spokesman for the Justice Department, said Holder cited the case's "extraordinary circumstances" as justification for an additional autopsy. Furthermore, Fallon said Holder also noted that Brown's family made the request.
The Justice Department will still take the state of Missouri's autopsy into consideration, and this second autopsy is expected to take place as soon as possible.
