George Takei has long outlived his Star Trek fame and used it for LGBT activism and generally being awesome. The 77-year-old is the star of a new documentary about his life, To Be Takei. Takei was born in Japan, but after moving to the United States, his family was forced to live in a Japanese internment camp for much of his childhood.

Of course, fame and fortune followed, and the rest is history. Takei came out publicly in 2005 with his partner of 18 years. He has since become an icon for gay rights, and a Sci Fi, icon, too. NASA even named an asteroid after him! Basically, he is the best.

To Be Takei is making the rounds at film festivals around the country; it hits theaters August 22.
