An elderly California man says he shot and killed a woman who claimed to be pregnant after catching her and a male companion trying to rob his home.

Tom Greer, 80, of Long Beach, Calif. barely flinched when explaining the details of the shooting to NBC Los Angeles. According to Greer, he interrupted the home invasion on Tuesday, and though the suspects—identified as 28-year-old Andrea Miller and 26-year-old Gus Adams—were able to briefly subdue him, he was still able to get his firearm and chase them away before opening fire.

Noting that the woman wasn't able to run as fast as the man, he said she shot her twice in the back, despite her "Don't shoot! I'm pregnant" plea. "I shot her anyway," he told NBC Los Angeles.

Per the Long Beach Press-Telegram, an autopsy is being performed by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office to confirm if Miller was pregnant, while police are looking into Greer's self-defense claim.

The Press-Telegram adds that Adams was arrested and charged with suspicion of residential robbery and murder. Long Beach Police Chief Jim McDonnell explained the murder charge, pointing to Miller's death "in the commission of a felony."
