A new teaser trailer shows that Jake Gyllenhaal has joined quite the exclusive club: A-list Hollywood actors who have lost a sick amount of weight for a role.
Tom Hanks did it in Castaway (Oscar nomination!), Matthew McConaughey did it in Dallas Buyers Club (Oscar win!), Christian Bale did it in The Machinist (definitely should have won something), and now Gyllenhaal has done it in Nightcrawler.
The independent thriller directed by Dan Gilroy (The Bourne Legacy) stars Gyllenhaal as a highly driven young man who stumbles upon the underground world of L.A. freelance crime journalism.
The first teaser trailer popped up on YouTube with zero fanfare this week and shows Gyllenhaal’s character pitching himself as a “hard worker seeking employment.” It also offers just the slightest hint that this guy might be a little unhinged.
We’re intrigued.
Nightcrawler comes out Oct. 17.
