Dear White People has been on everyone’s radar ever since the film hit the Sundance Film Festival and then went on to win the Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Talent.
Tongues are wagging once again with the release of the film’s first trailer.
Justin Simien’s film debut offers the stories of what it’s like to be a POC (person of color) via four students at an Ivy League college amidst controversy following an “African American” themed party thrown by white students. Equally disturbing is all those themed frat parties that think it's cute to rhyme “Bros” with “Hoes” for a catchy name that rhymes, but we digress.
In the trailer we see some of the themes the film hopes will elicit a conversation about race, such as cultural appropriation (i.e. the aforementioned party.)
