"Birdman" Will Feature Some Very Unique Cinematography

Alejandro González Iñárritu's "Birdman" will use a filming technique that makes the movie look like it was done in one take.

Alejandro González Iñárritu has always been known as a director with a strong sense of scene and cinematography; he was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on Babel in 2007, and will be returning this October with Birdman, his first film since 2010.

It will star Michael Keaton as a washed up actor who was made famous by playing the titular superhero Birdman in a movie, only to be brought down by the typical pratfalls of booze, drugs, and women. The movie centers around Keaton’s attempt to revive his career by putting on a Broadway show, an adaptation of Raymond Carver’s short story What We Talk About When We Talk About Love.

Birdman was shot by cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, who previously worked on Gravity. According to people who saw the movie already, Lubezki employed a technique of filming that makes the finished product look like one long, extended shot. So, despite the fact that it was shot the same way as any other movie, it will appear as if it was all done in one take.

That kind of innovation, along with a stacked supporting cast that includes Emma Stone, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough, Zach Galifianakis, Naomi Watts, and Amy Ryan, makes Birdman a must-see this fall.
