World's Oldest Man Dies in New York City at 111

The oldest man in the world died over the weekend in New York Cityat the age of 111

The New York Times reports that Alexander Imich, died yesterday morning at the Esplanade, a senior community in Manhattan. Imich, who the Times describes as a chemist and "Polish-born psychic researcher," turned 111 in February, and became the world's oldest living man after Arturo Licata of Italy died on Apr. 24 at 111 years and 357 days. There are still 66 women older than Imich, the oldest whom is 116, the Times says.

During an Apr. 30 interview with the Times, Imich admitted his own surprise with his extended life span. "I never thought I’d be that old," he said, candidly. His body will be given to Mount Sinai Medical Center for study.
