In recent weeks, ISIS (The Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham) has catapulted onto the international stage following their blitzkrieg of Northern Iraq. The organization grew out of its predecessor, Al-Queda in Iraq, and operates with the goal of turning Northern Iraq and portions of Syria into a Sunni state. They have quickly gained a reputation for their brutality and their extreme fundamentalist beliefs. Their views are so radical that in February of this year Al-Qaeda cut ties with the group.

Despite their relatively small military force and their outdated weapons technology, ISIS has quickly become a substantial presence in Syria and Iraq. Though much of the credit for their growing influence in the region should go to the weakness and indifference of the Iraqi military, ISIS has used the tools available to them to the best of their ability. Their use of fast, mobile weapons, their willingness to appropriate captured equipment for their own uses, their savvy use of propaganda, and their extreme radicalism have all helped their small numbers make a big impact. Let’s take a closer look at how ISIS is using the tools at their disposal. Let’s find out What Technology is ISIS Using to Take Over Iraq?
