Paging Matthew Lillard!

Did anybody see the 2002 Scooby-Doo live action movie? You know, this one, with Lillard, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Linda Cardellini? We hope not. We watched the preview and regret losing those two minutes of our lives, so we can’t imagine what two hours must have felt like.

Despite the horrific-looking effects and ridiculous premise, this 2002 film took in a staggering $275 million worldwide. The sequel did significantly worse, which meant that the franchise was buried. But, in 2014, a dormant franchise means only one thing: it’s ripe for a reboot!

Warner Bros. has announced that they are bringing the live-action franchise back, with the script to be penned by Randall Green. Maybe we’ll get a fun, creative origin story? Or maybe they’ll have Scooby-Doo just be a normal dog?

At the very least, maybe they stop having hippies do drugs in a van. It’s probably not the right message to be putting out in a children’s movie anymore.
