It’s hard to believe, but there are some American teens who have literally been woken up, dragged out of their homes, and shipped out of the country against their will, all on their parents’ orders.

On July 10, Showtime will debut the documentary Kidnapped for Christ, which details the lives of homosexual Christian children suddenly ripped from their normal lives and sent to a “special” school in the Dominican Republic, where they live in sub-standard conditions and are “reeducated.” The film is executive produced by Lance Bass, Mike C. Manning, and Tom DeSanto, and gives an unfiltered look at the horror these kids are forced to face despite having committed no wrong.

The movie has been a success on the festival circuit, winning the Audience Award for Best Documentary Feature at the 2014 Slamdance Film Festival. In advance of the Showtime premiere two-and-a-half weeks from now, you can check out the trailer above.
