Facebook is like pizza: even when it’s bad, it’s still kind of good, right? As much as you may be fed up with the granddaddy of social media sites, you still end up logging in at one point or another. Perhaps you can blame it on innate curiosity, or maybe because it’s just too damn hard to delete yourself off of the site. Either way, we may actually be enjoying Facebook more than we care to admit.

Recently it has been said that Facebook was “dead” to teenagers. You also probably heard that packs of teenagers are fleeing the site for its cooler counterpart, Instagram. A little less than a year ago, Facebook itself claimed that teenagers were waving the white flag.

Oddly enough, a recent study found that, contrary to popular belief, teenagers aren’t ditching Facebook. According to a survey conducted by Forrester Research, teens are using the site in larger quantities and more frequently than any other social media site. Nearly half of the 4,500 participants between the ages of 12 and 17 actually admitted to using the site more now than they did a year ago.

Facebook's fate generally rests in the hands of the teenage population. In retrospect, many social media networks live or die at the hand of their youthful audience. However, just because teens claim to be “annoyed” by Facebook, leaving seems to be even more of a hassle.

Essentially, what Mark Zuckerberg created was a social media network that is impossible to leave even when its content pushes you away. For teens, Facebook is a method of quick communication, their address book, their event calendar, and so on. Most importantly, we have to remember, just because someone hates something, doesn’t mean they won’t continue to do it.
