With the Reading Rainbow Kickstarter campaign currently nearing $3.5 million raised in just three days, it looks like the beloved children’s show will be making a glorious comeback for a new generation.
Of course, there first question on everybody’s mind is: what will become of the theme song? The familiar lead-in of “butterfly in the sky…” is enough to conjure the most pleasant childhood memories of any kid who owned a television set in the 1980s or 1990s.
Well, host LeVar Burton seems keen on making some changes to the classic tune. He released this new version yesterday:

OK, we know that’s not actually the new theme song. That’s way too dark for a kid’s show.
In fact, according to the Kickstarter page, the original theme will be back in all its glory. As the page so aptly says, “it never left.” Phew.
