According to Deadline, Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) is in talks with Sony about directing the long-rumored movie adaptation of Metal Gear Solid. This movie has been in development for well over a decade, but it looks like everything has finally aligned for the studio and the game creators to move forward with a cohesive vision.

With how long it has taken to get to this point, Vogt-Roberts must have really impressed everyone involved with his proposed take on the film. The Metal Gear franchise is one of the most successful video games in history, and this will undoubtedly be among the most anticipated movies over the next few years.

It hasn’t been easy getting video games translated into movies, but along with a Metal Gear Solid adaptation, there are also films for Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell coming out in the near future. We may be looking at a genre renaissance, or another string of disappointments. We’ll just have to wait and see.
