The BBC Adaptation of J.K. Rowling's "The Casual Vacancy" Has Begun Casting

HBO and the BBC have announced preliminary casting for their adaptation of J.K. Rowling's "The Casual Vacancy."

The BBC and HBO are teaming up to produce J.K. Rowling’sThe Casual Vacancy, her 2012 book that was her first post-Harry Potter project. The book has sold six million copies worldwide, and will be broken up into three one-hour installments for television.

The cast is led by Harry Potter veteran Michael Gambon, who played Dumbledore in the films. Also starring will be Keeley Hawes (Line of Duty), Rory Kinnear (Skyfall, Penny Dreadful), Monica Dolan (Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa), Julia McKenzie (Notes on a Scandal), and Abigail Lawrie.

For those who do not know, the novel “explores social issues via the intricate and dark relationships between the residents of the quaint and seemingly idyllic English village of Pagford.” Basically, teenage-level drama with a little class warfare mixed in.

Several other main roles have yet to be announced, but with production slated to begin July 7 those names should be revealed soon.
