Read and Weep: How Far Your Paycheck Really Goes in NYC

Sad, but true. Simple fix: Get rich.

Even if you make $100,000 a year, you're probably pissing your money away by living inNew York City. It's one of those truths that people avoid by not thinking too hard about it.

Because NPR's Planet Money wants you to feel bad about yourself, they used a federal government data set to break down what living in the city actually feels like, financially. For example, the city makes $37,064, the median income, actually feel like $28,799. Damn that cost of living straight to hell.

So what can be done? Nothing, honestly. Either embark on a lucrative career or move to, like, Rochester, Minn. Or stop complaining, because you knew what you signed up for.
