After earning $90.7 million over the weekend, X-Men: Days of Future Past finished out the Memorial Day holiday with a total domestic box office of $111 million.
That huge total makes it the fifth-largest Memorial Day opening in history, trailing last year’s Fast & Furious 6 ($117 million) and 2006’s sequel X-Men: The Last Stand ($122.9 million), among others.
While it didn’t beat its predecessor, it’s still an excellent debut for the latest installment in the X-Men franchise. The next sequel (X-Men: Apocalypse) has already been scheduled for Memorial Day 2016, so the franchise will have yet another chance to outdo itself in just a couple years.
