It recently got out that Tupac Shakur’s last words were “Fuck you”—said to a police officer at the scene of his shooting. This is somehow both sad and strangely appropriate, from a man who was such a mass of contradictions.

In video games, epic ‘last words’ are a recent phenomenon. Back in the day, unless you were playing a text-based RPG, very few words were spoken (or seen) at all. Recently, however, as voice acting has improved, gamers have experienced more cinematic moments, which blur the line between classic game and classic movie. We’re counting down the Top Ten ‘last words’ from the past five years of video games. Let’s hope there’s more where that came from.
