Avoiding a massive bidding war that may well have cost them their biggest money-maker, ABC announced today that they’ve agreed to a contract to keep Shonda Rhimes with ABC Studios through 2018.
Rhimes—the brains behind ABC staples Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, and Scandal—is perhaps the network’s biggest asset given her 100 percent success rate in creating multi-season series that attract big numbers of viewers. Deadline is reporting that her deal to stay with the network is likely in the eight-figure range, which makes sense given her value.
Her fourth series, called How To Get Away Murder and starring Academy Award-nominated actress Viola Davis, already had its pilot test so well that it got a full season order and a prime spot on Thursday nights after Grey’s and Scandal.
Right now, it's great to be Shonda.
