NYPD officers shot and killed a man in Brooklyn after he allegedly dove in their direction with a pair of scissors yesterday.

The New York Times reports that police responded to a call around 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening regarding a woman who had been stabbed inside of a Flatbush apartment building. Upon entering the lobby, they found a 38-year-old woman with stab wounds to the shoulder. She was later treated at Kings County Hospital.

Inside of the individual apartment, police opened fire on the unidentified 39-year-old man after he lunged at them with scissors. He died at the scene after sustaining gunshot wounds to the hand and torso. According to the Times, officers did not disclose how many shots they fired at the man.

Earlier that day, NYPD officers shot 23-year-old Michael Schultz in East Harlem, claiming that he pointed a gun at them while fleeing. Witnesses contest this account, saying Schultz was trying to throw the gun away while he ran from police.
