According to Nintendo's latest financial statement, the company posted a loss of nearly $229 million dollars for the year. The Nintendo console - Wii U - and the hand-held gaming 3DS failed to meet sales goals.

Nintendo says that the Wii U “still faces a challenging sales situation.” The console shipped only 2.72 million units for Nintendo's financial year. While the 3DS is still selling quite well, the Wii U is really pulling the company down.

Nintendo says it will shift its focus to “stimulate” the Wii U as a platform. The upcoming Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros Wii U will certainly help.
